Everything you need to know about the Single Document(DUERP)

The Single Document

The Single Occupational Risk Assessment Document (DUER or DUERP) is compulsory for all companies from such time as they take on their first employee. It identifies, assesses and prevents the occupational risks (physical, chemical, psychosocial, etc.) to which employees are exposed.
Updated every year, the Single Document is a pillar of the company's prevention policy. It helps to improve safety at work, reduce workplace accidents and meet the employer's legal health and safety at work obligations.

The features of the DUERP module
There is no real difference between the DUER and the DUERP. DUER, for Single Risk Assessment Document, was the most commonly used abbreviation until recently. Since the 2022 reform, the official term has become DUERP, for Single Occupational Risk Assessment Document. The purpose of this change is to reiterate that the document deals specifically with work-related risks and comes under an overall prevention approach. The content and obligations remain the same: to identify, analyse and prevent occupational risks in the company.
Yes, pursuant to the Labour Code, the DUERP is mandatory for all companies from such time as they hire their first employee. It must identify and assess all occupational risks to which employees may be exposed (physical, chemical, psycho-social risks, etc.). Failure to do so exposes the employer to penalties in the event of a labour inspection or accident.
The DUERP must be updated at least once a year. It must also be revised whenever a significant decision is made that changes working conditions (new equipment, reorganisation, new premises, etc.) or when additional information about a risk is identified. This regular updating ensures effective prevention and proves the company's compliance with its legal obligations.
